Hargy Oil Palms Ltd Plantations

Hargy Plantation has an area of 2,431.07 hectares. It was originally planted in the early 1970’s and has been completely replanted.

Navo Plantation was first developed in 1984 and as at the end of 2009 5,268 hectares has been planted. In 2010 724 hectares of the original plantings at Navo will be re-planted. Barema Plantation was developed between 2006 and 2009 and a total of 2,077 hectares has been planted. All of the planting material is Dami.

CROP

The crop produced in 2009 was 213,342 tonnes. The yield of palms between 6 and 20 years of age was 30 t/ha

TRANSPORT

Crop is either spike loaded directly into trucks or tractor/tailer units or loaded with nets and cranes. The trucks then deliver the fruit directly to the mills. Empty bunches are backloaded from the mills for distribution in the plantations as organic fertiliser.

GENERAL EMPLOYEES

All of the Plantation employees are housed in one of seven housing areas or compounds. Over the past two years the housing has been progressively maintained and upgraded. 107 new houses for employees were constructed in 2009. Each house receives power and water and a clinic is provided in each compound. Treated mosquito nets are provided to each house to help control malaria.

TRAINING & STAFF DEVELOPMENT

All new employees of the Plantations are inducted so that they are aware of all safety requirements and other relevant company policies. Training for managers and supervisors commenced in 2009 and this will continue to ensure all employees receive the appropriate level of training. Safety and Environment

Plantation management is committed to providing a safe work place and also in ensuring a high level of compliance to the ISO14001:2004 environmental standards.

DEVELOPMENTS

The major developments in the exisiting plantations in 2010 is to bring immature plantings into harvest at 24 months after planting, to replant 724 hectares and to upgrade the plantation road network to provide all weather access to all blocks and also to minimise erosion.

Vision
By 2020 Hargy will be sustainably producing 200,000 tonnes of quality oil from 20,000ha of plantation and 18,000ha of smallholders.
